The Association of Arizona Food Banks (AAFB) has received a $7,500 grant from respected national anti-hunger organization Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) to support its ongoing anti-hunger work. These funds will support AAFB’s collaborative efforts to raise awareness about the extent of hunger and poverty in Arizona, and utilize solutions that will help Arizonans find relief from hunger as they experience job loss, medical issues or other economic hardship.
“Arizona continues to struggle with hunger, poverty, slow job growth, and numerous other issues brought on by the recession and sluggish economic growth. Today, one in five Arizonans struggle with hunger or live in poverty, including more than one in four of our children,” said Angie Rodgers, president and CEO of the Association of Arizona Food Banks. “We are pleased FRAC has again recognized the valuable work we do and considers us a vital partner in ending hunger going forward.”
The grant will assist AAFB in expanding its efforts to raise awareness of the extent of hunger and poverty in Arizona, and the role of federal nutrition programs such as SNAP (Food Stamps) as a solution to these problems. Ultimately, the grant will help improve access to and participation in federal nutrition programs.
