Hold a Food Drive

Want to hold a food drive of your own? Follow these simple steps for success!

Holding a food drive for your local food bank is simple and rewarding!

Here’s a 7-Step plan you can follow:

  1. Identify the food bank you’d like to help. Consider one of AzFBN’s regional members or find a smaller organization in our directory.
  2. Contact the food bank you’ve chosen. Some of the larger food banks will have information on their website, but you’ll need to call or email smaller charities. Be sure to follow their guidelines if you can!
  3. Find out if the food bank has  any specific needs – like vegetarian items, or things that are high in protein. This will help them put your donated food to work as quickly as possible!
  4. Identify, contact and advertise to “your community” (this may be your faith congregation, service club, fellow employees, neighborhood, school, etc.) and then collect food! It works best to have a deadline so that people know to respond quickly.
  5. If you are in a community with several organizations similar to yours, consider working together! You can even make it a friendly competition to see who can get the most food for the food bank!
  6. If possible, deliver the food to the food bank – this will save them time and money and get the food in and out the door quickly!
  7. Pat yourselves on the back for helping end hunger in Arizona!

If these seven steps are a little too daunting, consider holding a fund drive instead. Donor dollars go a long way at a food bank thanks to economies of scale.

Thank you for thinking of Arizonans at risk of hunger!
