Fry’s Food Stores has generously made a donation in the amount of $23,000 to the Association of Arizona Food Banks (AAFB) in support their ongoing efforts to fight hunger statewide.

“One in five Arizonans struggles to put enough food on the table,” said Ginny Hildebrand, president and CEO of the Association of Arizona Food Banks. “Fry’s has been a tremendous community partner to both AAFB and food banks throughout Arizona for a very long time, and we are thankful for their generous donation in these tough economic times.”

Fry’s Food Stores made the donation as part of parent company Kroger’s “Bringing Hope to the Table” campaign, an annual cause-marketing partnership with Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. In 2011, the campaign donated the equivalent of 160 million meals nationwide, which equals more than 3 million meals each week.

In this time of severe economic downturn, an estimated 127,300 Arizonans receive some type of emergency food each week. AAFB’s five member regional food banks distributed 123.2 million pounds of food in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012.

Fry’s Food Stores is a longtime supporter of food banks throughout Arizona by regularly donating food through store pick-up programs. In the past year, Fry’s 121 stores in Arizona donated the equivalent of more than 8 million meals to Arizona food banks, and it is expected that a similar amount will be provided to food banks in 2012.
