Vaccination FAQ's
Q: When will I get the vaccine?
A: March 22nd at St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance and March 23rd at United Food Bank as the event dates. People will be scheduled in groups to arrive in 30 minute to 1 hour increments. You should have received an email with your time and location. If not, email [email protected].
Q: Does this mean I can go anywhere vaccine is available and get vaccinated?
A: No, the county is working with us directly and we are setting up this distribution specifically for food banks. Unless you qualify for another group (like 55+, etc) you won’t be able to schedule an appointment.
Q: I heard the Johnson and Johnson vaccine isn’t as good. Is that true?
A: Here’s the information page from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/janssen.html
But a key point from that page is this: “The J&J/Janssen vaccine was 66.3% effective in clinical trials (efficacy) at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people who had no evidence of prior infection 2 weeks after receiving the vaccine. People had the most protection 2 weeks after getting vaccinated. The vaccine had high efficacy at preventing hospitalization and death in people who did get sick. No one who got COVID-19 at least 4 weeks after receiving the J&J/Janssen vaccine had to be hospitalized.”
Q: What if I can’t make these days?
A: AzFBN is staying in touch with the county to see when other vaccine becomes available and will keep food banks up to date on this as we know more. This may be the only opportunity for food banks specifically, so please reschedule other appointments if you can.
Q: I’m not in a public facing role, so why do I need to fill out this form?
A: We’ve given an estimate to the county of the number of people we think fits their priorities for vaccination. But we don’t know exactly how many people need the vaccine (some may have already been vaccinated, some are uninterested), so we need to get a count of everyone interested to make sure no doses are wasted.
Q: How will I schedule a second dose?
A: The Johnson and Johnson (Janssen) vaccine is only one dose, so no second appointment is needed.
Q: I got the first dose of a different COVID19 vaccine. Should I get this as my second dose?
A: No. This is a different vaccine, and is not compatible with Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
Q: I already had COVID-19. Should I get vaccinated?
A: The county health department says yes. But as with any medical decision it’s up to you and your doctor.
Q: I work in Maricopa County but live in a different county. Am I eligible?
A: No, not for this opportunity. Please check with your county health department.
Q: Our agency serves people outside of Maricopa County. Are our employees eligible?
A: Yes, as long as they reside within the county.
Q: My agency doesn’t work with St. Mary’s or United. Am I still eligible?
A: Yes, all food bank or agency front line workers and key volunteers in the county are eligible.
Q: Does it cost anything?
A: No, the vaccine is free and the Arizona Food Bank Network is covering the cost of the vaccination.
Q: I have another question that isn’t listed here.
A: Contact Terri Shoemaker at AzFBN. Her email is [email protected] and she will respond as soon as she can.
