But what if you wanted to purchase more healthful foods for your family, but simply couldn’t afford it? Have you ever thought about what that would be like?

More and more studies are showing connections between poverty, food quality and health.
For example, one recent observational study determined that healthy food could help low-income people better control their diabetes. The result: better diabetes control and medication adherence and an overall improvement in the consumption of healthy food.
It may not be shocking to find out that high calorie, low quality foods that satisfy hunger can also lead to health problems. But when obesity and malnutrition start showing up in the same person – even children – it is shocking. And points to the larger issue. Poverty. And most people are just 1 or 2 paychecks from facing these same problems.
